Do you want to join the Autonomous systems connectivity team at VTT? Our team focuses on development of communications solutions for autonomous and remote controlled systems such as cars, ships, and unmanned aerial vehicles. We develop also ultra-reliable low latency communications and positioning techniques for future systems. The team is located in Oulu and Espoo, while this open position is in the Espoo site.

With us you will be responsible for

We are looking for a motivated researcher or master’s thesis worker to conduct research on communications solutions for autonomous systems. The implementation of various real-time functionalities for the target embedded systems typically require design for fast programmable logic, which can be achieved cost-efficiently only with FPGA or similar technology. A major part of the work will include FPGA development where engineering skills like VHDL programming, RTL design, verification, synthesis and par, and simulation are used. In addition to VHDL design, the work will include prototype testing of the FPGA solutions in field measurements and trials for performance assessment together with other team members. The content of the work will be tailored according to the worker's skills and practical experience. We are providing interesting and challenging work in a dynamic research team. This opens excellent possibilities for the applicant to participate both in national and international R&D projects.

We expect you to have

• Understanding of the basics of VHDL programming or similar logic design for hardware.
• Also experience on SoCs with integrated processor and programmable logic would be beneficial.
• Basic programming skills, e.g. C, C+, Python.
• Mandatory spoken and written fluency of English.
• We also appreciate prior knowledge of different wireless technologies (e.g. Wi-Fi, LTE, 4G/5G, LPWA) and indoor/outdoor positioning techniques (sensor based, network based, GNSS).
